Donna Sue Wiley, age 76, passed away peacefully at Norman Regional Hospital on August 20, 2023. She was visited and comforted by those who loved her at the time of her passing.
Donna was born December 20, 1946, in Walters, Oklahoma, to Gordon Franklin Morrow and Mary Gladys Roller Morrow of Walters. She attended 12 years of schooling in Walters and graduated with the Walters High School class of 1965. She went on to attend Cameron University and graduated with her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1968, and later earned her Bachelors in Nursing in 1983.
Donna took her Nightingale Pledge with pride and devotion in serving and helping thousands of people as an RN for 45 years. She worked from 1968 to 1972 for Comanche County Memorial Hospital, then from 1972 to 1974 for Great Plains Orthopedic Clinic as an office and surgical nurse. She went on to serve Comanche County Memorial Hospital for another three years. Donna then began her 18-year tenure with Great Plains Women's Clinic where she assisted with various types of women's surgery and office work for several physicians. In 1994, Donna moved to Norman and worked at Cleveland County Health Department where she served as a Public Health Nurse and Communicable Disease Nurse. She was recognized by her peers and superiors for her dedication and excellence, including the award for excellence from the Epidemiology section of the State Health Department in 2004. Donna retired from Public Health in January 2010, but continued to serve as an Office Nurse when needed at Deaconess Hospital. She volunteered with the Red Cross, was a member of Delta Kappa in Norman, and helped with the Norman Parks committee.
Donna was married to Kenneth Potts in 1969 for a few years, and to this union a daughter, Kristi Dawn, was born. In 1990, Donna met Lt. Col. James A Wiley, the love of her life, and married on October 22, 1990. They lived in Walters for four years then moved to Norman where they made their home until Jim passed away on May 17, 2016.
Donna loved her home, gardening, and home decorating especially Christmas and Halloween. Donna was a master gardener and planted many flowers and loved to be outside. She also loved pets including horses, dogs, cats and all creatures and took care of many animals during her life. Donna and Jim were avid OU fans and attended many games over the years.
Donna is survived by a daughter, Kristi Dawn Smith of Nevada; and Bret Wiley, Jim's son, also of Nevada. Donna will be missed by her family and friends and especially by her freeloader feline, Freddy.
God took the final step to welcome His beautiful daughter into eternity where she's at Home with her beloved Jim and all the holy ones. For this, we give thanks.
