Donna Marie Henry, 84, of Greeley, CO, formerly of Winnemucca, NV, passed away early on April 25, 2024.
Donna was born March 5, 1940 in Winnemucca, NV, to Joseph and Marie McMurtrey. She attended Winnemucca High School and graduated in 1958 and then went college at Gonzaga University, where she graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor's in Education. Donna met her love and husband, Royce Henry at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA where she was a grade school teacher for 5 years. She and Royce married on June 23, 1965 at the La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc, CA, and lived in Lompoc until they moved to Greeley, CO in 1966 when Royce became employed by Mountain Bell.
Donna was an avid reader her whole life with an affinity for murder mysteries and historical books. Following her time teaching in CA, Donna also volunteered various times at her children's schools and taught Sunday school while being a homemaker.
Along with having a life-long passion for education, Donna particularly enjoyed taking walks in the neighborhood, watching and feeding birds, camping, fishing and snowshoeing. Donna also had a love for decorating the house and mailbox as well as planting something new to go along with each season. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, family genealogy, and catching up with her extended family and life-long friends.
Donna was also an enthusiastic supporter of the arts. She and Royce attended many theater events at both the Union Civic Center and University of Northern Colorado in Greeley throughout the years.
Donna was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley. Her faith never wavered nor did her contributions to the Lutheran church.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lewis (Butch) McMurtrey.
Donna was a very loving mother to her two children. She is remembered for cooking family dinners, planning game nights, and for providing her strength and support whenever the need arose. Donna routinely took detailed notes about her children's adventures, daily interests and their spouse's lives. The notes she left about her favorite songs, artists, and interests comforted family on her final days. She will be greatly missed.
Donna is survived by her husband Royce Henry of Greeley and her two children, Jerome Henry (Brenda) of Lafayette, CO, and Leanne Henry Miller (Jim) of Snellville, GA.
A private family gathering will be held in the future at which time her ashes will be scattered in some of her favorite places in the Colorado mountains.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Donna Henry to The Wild Animal Sanctuary at www.wildanimalsancuary.org or to NOCO Humane at www.nocohumane.org.
