Donald R. Welch passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Born June 6, 1934, in Kentucky, the son of William Walter and Leona (Boggs) Welch. Don graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1955. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Miami University in 1959, his Masters in Science, Plant Pathology from Penn State in 1961 and his PhD in Plant Pathology from Penn State in 1963. Don was a Professor at Beloit College from 1963 until 1976. He married Clara Sorensen on June 13, 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; children, Karen S. (Michael) Boehk, of Oakland, Michigan and Karl M. (Amy) Welch of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Ashley Boehk and Isabel Welch. He is preceded in death by his father, William Walter, mother, Leona Welch, sister, Dorothy Varney and brother, Howard Varney.
Private family services will be held.
