Donald Starr, 84, of Stamford passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home. Family will have visitation from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23 at the Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 24 in the Scranton Cemetery located on FM 1864 and CR 147 near Cisco, Texas with Wes Horn and Justin Cox officiating with Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home directing services.
Don was born July 21, 1936 in Scranton, Texas to Robert and Melba (Boland) Starr. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1954. After serving in the US Army he returned to Scranton in 1957 and married Margaret Kinser. The couple moved to Midland, Texas where Don worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He was transferred to Stamford in 1961 as the manager. He retired from Coca-Cola after 20 years and began his tenure with Congressman Charles Stenholm in 1977. He started as a volunteer manager for Charlie's first Congressional Campaign and later became the District Manager. Don served on numerous local civic organizations. He served on the Stamford School Board for seven years, including one term as President. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club and Stamford Jaycees. In 1987 they moved to Anson, Texas were Don purchased Anson Gin with partner, Frank Pierce.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers James Ray and Travis Starr and one daughter, Pam Starr Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Starr; daughters Sharon Pierce and husband Pat, Valerie Lozano and husband Alex; grandchildren Justin Cox and wife Megan, Preston Cox and wife Sarah, Amber Engelke and husband Mark, Courtney Walton and husband Trey, Amanda Moreno and husband Rene, Matthew Sandoval , and Kolby Griffin; great grandchildren Kenley and Ryan Cox, Micah Moreno, Peyton and Kendal Walton, Hayden, Atlee and Haze Engelke. He is also survived by one brother Norris Starr of Cisco and one sister, Thelma Sellers of Cisco and numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved going to monthly musicals held at the Scranton Community Center and this was one of the highlights of his life!
