Donald Charles Searight died peacefully in his home in Georgetown, Texas on January 14, 2021 at the age of 75. Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Sue Searight and children, Donny and Lisa Searight of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Mike and Teresa Searight of McGregor, Texas; and Ryan and Corrie Searight of Georgetown, Texas. Don and Carol have eight grandchildren: Megan, Kaylie, Austin, Matthew, Landon, Clara, Reid, and Chase. Don was born on April 23, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to O.C. and Jennie Searight. He graduated from San Antonio MacArthur High School in 1963 and was proud to be a Brahma. He married his high school sweetheart Carol Sue Carpenter on April 1, 1964. After marriage, Don was sent to Vietnam and served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Upon his return to San Antonio, he began his long career as a civilian aircraft mechanic. He put in long hours and travelled internationally while honing his skills and learning more about planes. From working on Air Force One to customizing planes for Sultans, he enjoyed the relationships he built with his coworkers. Don and Carol have three sons, and as they grew up, he went about teaching them many lessons, but he most enjoyed teaching them to love fishing. In his rare free time, Don enjoyed tournament bass fishing throughout Texas. His children remember him as a hard worker who encouraged them to pursue their goals. After retirement Don and Carol enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Ireland, and various Bassmaster events. Their favorite destination of all was Yellowstone National Park, where they worked many summers and made wonderful friends. Don held jobs in the park that allowed him to drive through the park daily and see the beautiful sites, natural wonders and animals. Don was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved his grandchildren more than anything and was passionate about being at as many of their games and events as he could. He had many nicknames including Bull Face and Mr. Sticky, but he liked being called Papa the best. He was an active and dedicated member of Meier Settlement United Methodist Church in Riesel, Texas. A private family ceremony to honor and celebrate his life will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to C.A.S.T. castforkids.org. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels Georgetown and Hospice Austin for their excellent care. You may share a message or memory on our online guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com.
