Donald Henry Sachs departed this life on January 14, 2023. Don was born February 7, 1929, in Rochester to Louise (Bramer) and Arthur Sachs. His brother Robert and wife Mildred (Lind) (both deceased) had three sons; Ted married to Linda McCartney, Edward married to Sarah Morrison, and Richard (deceased). His cousin was Jean Meskill of Spencerport, NY. (deceased)
Don graduated East High, got a B.S. from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH where he enjoyed trips with their choir.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, served in Chateauroux, France at a NATO supply base. He traveled to many countries before returning home in 1954 because of his father's death.
His museum career began at Bausch Museum in Rochester, then a museum in Green Bay, WI, the Milwaukee City Museum, and Smith's Clove Village Museum in Monroe, NY, near West Point. He returned to Rochester to care for his mother in 1970; she died in 1977.
He met James R. Ide on August 7, 1985 (Jim's 50th birthday). They began to live together December 19, 1986, in Don's home. They moved to Charles Town, WV in 1991, and to Homewood Retirement Campus, Williamsport, MD in 2002. Their wedding at St. John's Episcopal Church was also on December 19, 2013 (their 27th anniversary).
