It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father, Donald McCarthy, of Cape Coral, FL, on Friday, September 9, 2022.
In accordance with Don's wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Minnesota, with a reception celebrating his life at the American Legion Club in Pine Island, MN, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
Don was 80 years old when he passed. He was raised on a farm near Kenyon MN, served in the US Army Reserve for five years and worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for 30 years.
Don was a great dancer. He met the love of his life, Caroll Yennie, old time dancing. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on May 25, 1968, celebrating 54 years. He was known for his easygoing ways, his love of family, friends and pets, and his great sense of humor and storytelling. In his younger years he loved to snowmobile and join in bonfire parties in the woods with family and friends. His favorite pastime in recent years was to watch TV, but just try to pry that remote from his hand!
Don was preceded in death by his father, Joseph McCarthy, and mother, Beatrice McCarthy; niece Patricia (McCarthy) McNabb; great niece Anne Marie Deitz; great nephews Blake McCarthy and Benjamin Schiell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Caroll (Yennie) McCarthy; daughter, Erin Brown (Steve); son, Bradley McCarthy; brother Joseph McCarthy (Evelyn); sisters, Joan Jordan and Ruth Holm (Roy); along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews, all who loved their Uncle Don.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Cir., Fort Myers, FL 33908 or at hopehospice.org.
