Donald Francis Porter, age 93, passed from this life on Sunday, December 26th, 2021 at Christus St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont surrounded by his family. He was born July 29th, 1928 in Harrisburg, Tx. He was a longtime resident of Vidor before moving to Beaumont 20 years ago. Donald was a longtime member and deacon of Lakeview Baptist Church and attended North End Baptist Church after moving to Beaumont. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska for 3 years. He was employed by Texaco in the Electrical and Instrument departments for 36 years before retiring in 1984. During his employment he took a brief assignment in Belgium and 8-year assignment in Honduras. He was a lifelong member of IBEW Local 479. He enjoyed traveling, reading and hunting. He was an avid mall walker. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Patsy Porter of Beaumont, Tx. and his children: Douglas Porter and wife Susan of Beaumont, Gary Porter of Vidor and Cindy Porter of Beaumont and a special brother-in-law Ronnie Collins of Vidor. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kara Pack and husband Mike, Amber Winchester and husband Shane, Karen Mangan and husband David, Krista Spoonmore and husband Hayden, and Emalie Jones as well as 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Columbus and Lucy Porter, brother Thomas W. Porter, sister Carla Mae Snider and in-laws Porter and Beulah Collins. Donald was a loving husband and great dad and grandpa. He will be remembered with love and greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Visitation will be Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral will take place on Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.
