Donald Ray Miller
September 26, 1935-August 13, 2021
Don passed away following two emergency abdominal surgeries surrounded by his loving wife, Sherma, and other members. Don lived a full life of 85 years.
Donald Ray Miller was born to Gladys and Ray Miller in Wichita, Kansas on September 26, 1935. He enjoyed a typical and midwestern childhood and attended elementary school in Wichita. He then attended and graduated from Kansas State University. His first marriage was to Doris Smith and they had two children, David and Lori, and were further blessed with grandchildren, Colton and Cameron.
Following college graduation, Don commenced his long and successful career with the Farmers Home Administration - first in Kansas and then in and serving western Colorado. In 1991, the Farmers Home Administration recognized his many accomplishments by designating him Colorado Employee of the Year. Don retired from the Farmers Home Administration in 1996.
In 1984, Don met Sherma while she was working in the District Attorney's office. They married on September 11, 1985, and Don inherited a second family of six children: Sheryl, Jeff, Michael, Marlene, Tim and Lea, and six grandchildren: Thad, 2 Jennifers, Nicha, Jacob and Austin. Don was a good supportive dad and grandad to all of them, which was much appreciated.
Don devoted considerable time and energy to the various causes of the Western Colorado Shriners club. He twice received recognition for such: in 1989, he was honored with the deep appreciation award as a director, and was later chosen The Noble Shriner of the Year 2000. Other enthusiastic pursuits included: golfing, motorcycling, dirt biking, scootering and family trips on his fifth wheeler.
A memorial service for Don will be at Callahan-Edfast on Saturday at 2:00 PM, September 4, 2021. Contributions may be made in Don's honor to the Western Colorado Shriners Club or Hope West Hospice.
