Mr. Donald L. McCauley, age 87, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on February 9, 1933 in Madison, Indiana, the loving son of Phillip W. and Ida L. Niesse McCauley. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in downtown Madison and graduated in 1950 from Madison High School. He was united in marriage to Caroline M. Lynch in Madison, Indiana on June 13, 1953. This happy union of 67 years was blessed with two daughters, Debbie and Donna, and two sons, Daniel and Darrin. Just three months after their wedding, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany after his basic training. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church . He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports, golfing, and traveling. Don was employed with Mite Federal Savings and Loan Association . As time passed, he became a member of the Board of Directors and served as President . In 1984, Mite Federal merged into Home Federal and he remained President. In 1986, he accepted the role as President of First Federal Savings and Loan Association in Peru, Indiana. He retired from this position in 1996, but remained a member of the advisory board. Don was very active in the civic and community organizations there. Serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of Peru-Miami County Economic Development Corporation, and served on the United Way Board, the Grissom Community Council, the Grissom Museum, and served as a board member of the Savings and Loan League of Indiana. He and Caroline returned to Madison in 2000 to be close to family and friends. Don served on the Community Foundation for Jefferson County, and was also selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Madison Heritage Apartments in downtown Madison. Don was involved in many civic and service organizations including, Frontliner, Madison Economic Commission, Charter Member of Madison Labor Management Commission, MIDCOR, Charter Member of the Madison Industrial Revolving Loan Fund, Madison Chamber of Commerce Past President (1974), Past President of Madison Jaycees, Past President of the Madison Country Club, Past President of the Madison Rotary Club, member of the Madison Elks Club No. 524, and the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765. Don was also a faithful member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison. He lovingly cared for his wife during her illness until her death on June 6, 2020. Don died on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 4:25 p.m. at his home in Madison, Indiana surrounded by his loving family. Don will be missed by his loving daughters, Deborah K. Cross and her husband Chris of Venice Florida, Donna M. McCauley and her significant other, Andy Schafer of Madison, Indiana; his loving sons, Daniel K. McCauley and his wife Susan of Louisville, Kentucky, Darrin J. McCauley and his fianc?e, Janet Lively of Louisville, Kentucky; his loving grandchildren, Mark Smith and his wife, Janet; Brad Smith and his wife, Christen; Logan McCauley and his wife, Jenna, Caroline McCauley Storc and her husband, Derek, Paige McCauley, Ryan McCauley, Kelly McCauley, and Matthew Woolard; his adoring great-grandchildren, Katelynn Alvey, Tristen Smith, Luke Smith, Casey Smith, Charlotte McCauley, Harrison Storc, and Ella Rose Storc , and Henry McCauley; his brother, Philip McCauley II, and his wife, Sandy of Jeffersonville, Indiana; his sisters Susan Barber of Louisville, Kentucky, Sarah West and her husband, Steve of Forsythe, Georgia; his half-sister-in law, Lynn Lynch Hughes and her husband Dan of Nashville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip W. McCauley, died November 14, 1996; his mother, Ida L. Niesse McCauley, died May 5, 1987; his father- in-law, Robert Logan Lynch, died February 8, 1978, his mother-in-law mother, Rosella Scarff Adams, died August 13, 2001, his daughter-in-law, Janice Olson McCauley, died November 27, 2015 and his beloved wife of 67 years, Caroline McCauley, died June 6, 2020. Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., by Father Christopher A. Craig at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 413 East Second Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery, 600 West Fifth Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Friends may visit Friday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
