December 6 1935 - June 6, 2022 Dr. Donald (Don) Liegler was born in Racine, WI, the son of Gerald Anthony Liegler and Marion Freres Liegler. He graduated from St. Catherine's High School (Racine, WI); University of Notre Dame (1957); and Marquette University School of Medicine (now the Medical College of Wisconsin) in 1963. After graduation from medical school, Dr. Liegler entered an internship and neurology residency at the University of Miami. From 1965 to 1967, he was a member of the Reserve Corps of the Public Service and was stationed at the Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Subsequently, he returned to the University of Miami to complete his residency and teach neurology. To further his specialization, Don took a six-month residency in pediatric neurology at DC Children's Hospital and later become nationally board-certified in neurology and psychiatry. In 1971, Dr. Liegler joined the San Gabriel Valley Neurological Medical Group in West Covina, CA, and practiced with the group until his retirement. He was elected Chief of Staff at Queen of the Valley Hospital during his practice years. In 1963, Don married Rosemary (Rose) Menke, from Fairfield, Iowa, an instructor at the School of Nursing at Marquette University. After 59 years of marriage, he is survived by his wife, Rose; daughter, Katherine; son, Jerry; grandson, Nicholas; and a niece by marriage, Theresa Blain. He is also survived by his three younger sisters: Mary Jo Liegler (Franklin, WI), Barbara Lyle (Bonita Springs, FL), and Katherine Rodgers (Morrisville, NC), and ten nieces and nephews. In addition to his medical practice and his love of family, Don was an avid reader, writer/poet, sports enthusiast, world traveler, and a dedicated birder. He loved reading world history, fiction, and four daily newspapers. In high school, he wrote a weekly editorial column: "Listening in on Liegler's Line" and, in recent years, he wrote poetry. He was athletically inclined--playing on the St. Catherine's varsity basketball team and later enjoyed tennis and skiing. He and his wife traveled widely over the years, and during retirement, he became a dedicated walker/bird watcher. Don will be truly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He died unexpectedly on June 6 of a cardio-pulmonary arrest while dining with his family at home. His funeral service will be held at 10 am on June 23, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Covina, CA.
