Donald Kivell died on December 25, 2020 at Kendal at Hanover. Born in Chicago IL., 1927, he responded to a Protestant altar call in Ocean Grove, NJ in 1936, followed by several summers at a Quaker camp near Litchfield, CT. Don sang in the choir at Christ Church, Bronxville NY and unexpectedly experienced God while walking the dog one October night in 1961. The next 12 years were spent attempting to integrate that revelation into his work life at NBC-TV, at church, with his wife Betty (Beyer) and his wonderfully imaginative daughters, Elin and Barbara. Elin now pursues artistic interests in Los Angeles and Barbara has an equine business in Pawling, NY. Two years after Betty's sudden death in 1973, Don fortunately met Marjorie Lupo, they married in 1975. Her children, Bill (now deceased) and Adele, were explorers. Bill biked through Europe and Israel and established an architectural business in Damariscotta, ME. While Adele hiked in Alaska and now lives with her family on an RAF helicopter base near Oxford England. Marjorie and Don retired from their jobs in 1988, she from the Episcopal Church Center and he from NBC. They then studied together at Trinity Seminary near Pittsburgh PA, both receiving Masters degrees in 1992. While Marjorie taught at Trinity, Don began Bible discussions with young adults in Pittsburgh's Oakland area, and continued doing this with adults at Osher@Dartmouth and Kendal at Hanover after they moved there in 2007. During his life with Marjorie, Don began learning how to rejoice always, pray without ceasing and be thankful in all circumstances, including this last one, praise the Lord!
