Donald (Don) Francis Kerrigan, age 90 passed away peacefully in his home in Holly Springs, NC surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Don was born at Alice Home in Lake Forest, IL, son of the late Francis J. and Anne (Muzik) Kerrigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary Jo (Max) Miller, Regina Wageman, Phyllis Kerrigan, and Kay (Robert) Weston; brother Jack Kerrigan and son Dennis (Nancy). Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janice (Trepanier) Kerrigan, his children Patrick (Mary), Brian (Lisa), Kevin and Susan Smith (Andrew). Don was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to seven grandchildren.
Don enlisted in the United States navy in 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean war. He later worked in civil service at Great Lakes Naval Station until his retirement.
Don was a devout Catholic which was exemplified in his schooling at Quigley Preparatory Seminary and St Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary. He was influenced in his love of religious studies by his uncle Monsignor Martin Muzik. Don and Jan were married at the church of St. Mary where he served as an active member of the church in many capacities.
Don spent the majority of his life in the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff area where he raised five children with his wife Janice. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with family, going to concerts, and traveling. Don and Janice relocated to Holly Springs, NC in 2011 where they moved to be near their family.
A mass in remembrance will be held at the Church of St. Mary at a later date. The family is planning a celebration of life in the coming months. Donations can be made in Don's name to the church of St. Mary in Lake Forest, IL.
