Donald Joseph Hughes Jr., age 74, a Villages Community Watch Supervisor, formerly of Vancouver, B.C., Texas, and Illinois passed away on December 20, 2020, at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.
Don was a true "baby boomer" born to 1st Lt. Donald Joseph Hughes and Mary Louise (Rozier) on June 18, 1946 in St. Louis Missouri.
Educated at Loyola University in Chicago Illinois, Don served as as a police officer for six years in Arlington Heights Illinois.
Don Jr's natural sales talents eventually landed him District Sales Managing positions with Boise Cascade, and Swingles Furniture in Chicago. He married his first wife Eileen (Neil Fox) and had two beautiful daughters that survive him, Jennifer (Jamie Dorobek), and Stephanie (Tim Jagoda), grand children Zack Pecino, Alexandria Pecino, Jaden Dorobek and Savannah Jagoda.
Later Don became a territorial sales representative for Allied Furniture, Bassett, Malden Mills, and Vaughan Bassett Furniture.
Lake Sumter Landing provided a beautiful backdrop to the marriage between Don and Shelagh on September 15, 2013.
Don is survived by his loving wife Shelagh, Shelagh's son and golfing buddy Dave Rose and Dave's fianc? Gillian Lapointe, Shelagh's daughter Kristyn (Brian Heraty) and grandchildren Bella and Brayden Heraty, Don's sister Liz Harry, brother Bob, brother Alan, adopted sister Nida, and Don's faithful dogs Romeo and Tinkerbell.
A celebration of life for Don will be held, (tentatively Friday February 26), at a Villages recreation center pending completion of attendee vaccinations.
Shelagh asks that as an expression of sympathy memorial contributions be made to the Cornerstone Hospice located at 601 Mariposa Way, The Villages, Fla. 32162 or to a charity of your choice.
Any random act of kindness in Don's name would also be very much appreciated.
