IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONALD EDWARD 'DJ' JOHNSON ROCKFORD - Mr. Donald E. Johnson, 74, of Rockford was born September 15, 1939, in Clarke County, Mississippi, the youngest child of the late A.C. Johnson and Clarine Rogers Johnson. God in his infinite wisdom and divine love, plucked him from our midst on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 8:26 a.m. at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Bro. Johnson was raised in the Elwood, MS community with a strong and loving family. The family lived in Alliance, Ohio for a brief period and eventually moved back to Clarke County where he attended the Shirley-Owens High School in Quitman, MS. Donald moved to Rockford, IL in 1963, where he met the love of his life, Eula B. "Polly" Hand, of Sasser, GA on Labor Day weekend. They were united in Holy matrimony on August 10, 1966, and recently celebrated 48 years of love. God blessed this union with one daughter, L'Tanga Michelle, and two sons, Corey Dwayne and Duntair Cornell Johnson. His father, A.C. Johnson, his mother, Clarine R. Johnson, and his sister, Helen Lois (John) Jones preceded him in death. Donald worked for 33 years for Chrysler Corporation of Belvidere, IL, in the Body Shop and the Stamping Plant. In his spare time, he liked to watch westerns and karate films and talk about his family! Bro. Johnson was an active member of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed him. He was an active member of the Men's and Van Transportation Ministries. Donald lived his life and was known to be a sharp dressed man with a kind, friendly spirit and a smile that would touch your heart. Donald did not meet any strangers and would go out of his way for his many family and friends. He absolutely loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and rode them for 47 years, and was a founding member of the Road Gliderz Motorcycle Club, where he served as the Sergeant of Arms. He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, Eula B. Johnson; one daughter, L'Tanga M. Johnson of Simpsonville, SC; two sons, Corey D. (Shantay) Johnson of Roscoe, IL and Duntair C.
