Donald J Hayner, 90, of The Villages, FL, passed peacefully on November 1, 2020. Born in Bayport Minnesota, he is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 70 years, JoAnn Hayner and four children; Nanette Stecyk, The Villages, FL, Monica Beth Hayner of E. Syracuse, NY, Cynthia H DeLapp, The Villages, Florida and Robert M Hayner, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren; Ryan Smith of LaFayette, NY, Stephanie Ness of Manlius, NY, Trevor Smith of Fayetteville, NY, Darren Smith of Tully, NY, Chadwick McNab of Manlius, NY, Marshall Hayner of California and Caroline Hayner of Australia and ten great grandchildren.
Don's career started at Anderson Windows eventually becoming Northeast Regional Sales Manager. He moved his family to the Syracuse NY area in the 1950's where he met Richard Hoyt. Together they formed the Hayner Hoyt Corporation, creating the beginnings of an icon in the commercial construction industry. Hayner Hoyt continues its work today after more than 50 years in business.
In his spare time, he enjoyed a competitive game of golf and tennis. The family enjoyed summers camping in Lake George NY. When not at the lake, family gatherings were held on Sundays at his home where the kids enjoyed afternoons around the pool and spirited games of volleyball.
Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Sarasota Florida where he continued to enjoy golf, tennis, and travel. Don was a communicant and usher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Osprey Fl where he donated his time as Clerk of the Works.
A private celebration of life will be held next summer in Lake George NY. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army at salvationarmyusa.org.
