Donald G. Erickson "Don", 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Jerome Home in New Britain. He was a New Britain native and longtime resident. He was very religious, a member of the First Lutheran Church of the Reformation in New Britain, and served as an altar boy in his youth. Don was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in multiple locations including Hawaii at the start of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was proud of his service, loved America, and was frequently seen wearing his Marine Corps cap. Whenever he saw the U.S. flag he would salute and say, "Semper Fi." Don was a Dept. of Defense purchasing agent for military contracts throughout Connecticut until he retired in 2008. Don had many interests and hobbies including the study of history, carpentry, and the maintenance of machines both great and small. Don was predeceased by his loving wife, Judith A. (Zakrzewski) Erickson; by brothers, Arthur Erickson and Carl Erickson; and by sisters, Madeline Fazzina and Doris Anderson. He is survived by his son, Craig A. Erickson and his wife Patrice, of Rochester Hills, MI; as well as an extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Don's family on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
