Memorial services for Donald (Don) Baum,81, of Lufkin, will be held Friday November 15 at 1:00 pm at Shafer Funeral Home, Lufkin, Texas. with Paster Rick Russell and Paster Mark Wilke officiating.
Mr. Baum was born August 28, 1943 in Jefferson County, Missouri to the late Walter and Audry (Buechting) Baum and died November 9, 2024 at his residence.
Don served in the United States Army Signal Corp. He was assigned to the White House Communication Agency. After his service (1967) he began a career with AT&T (formerly Western Electric) and retired in 1995. All of his adult life he was a member of American Legion over 57 years and served in several positions. Don loved America and served as Republican Party County Chairman for San Augustine, Texas and Angelina County Chairman for about 5 years before having to retire due to health issues. Don was a member of the Lufkin Lions Club and especially enjoyed volunteering at the Z&OO Railroad as well as receiving Lion of the Year Award. Don was a member of Carpenters Way Church.
He leaves behind wife Shirley, children Tammy & Jim Head, April Ray, grandsons Letney and Loren Head, Madden Ray, granddaughters Cory and Alaina; great-grands Lane, Paige, John, Kate, Sarah, and Davy. Don leaves cousins and Peggy, the only member remaining from the Baum family.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the grandchildren and Members of the American Legion.
In Lieu of flowers, donations to Don's favorite charity are appreciated: St. Luke's Children's Hospital, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and Hospice in the Pines.
