Don Parmer, 73, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 with his family by his side in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born August 8, 1948 in Nacogdoches to Woodrow & Lucille King Parmer and lovingly raised by Woodrow & Lucille Parmer and Jerome & Eileen Powers in the Blackjack-Attoyac community.
He attended school in Chireno, Texas and graduated in 1966. He considered his classmates family. Don loved to play baseball and loved his teammates. He has shared many stories about the Chireno-Cushing baseball rivalry. As a teenager, he worked with his dad at their Exxon service station on East Main in Nacogdoches and later he and his dad built an Exxon service station in Chireno.
Jerome Powers played an instrumental role in helping Don get started in the cattle business. Don had a passion for ranching and passed that along to his four children and their children. He also had a great love for team roping. He spent countless hours in the arenas owned by Jack Stubblefield and Pete Aiken and later built his own for his children. Don and his family produced team ropings for many years through the Coors, Bud Light and Rope America organizations. He later hosted team ropings as Parmer Productions and he played a vital role in the Shelah Aiken Memorial Team Roping that was hosted annually at the Parmer Ranch for 15 years.
In 1967, Don saw Jamie Wheeler at the Dairy Mart in San Augustine and said it was love at first sight. Don knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jamie by his side. They married January 31, 1969 and spent their lifetime making beautiful memories and raising their family. Don and Jamie had a marriage that was the perfect example for their children, and he loved her until the day he died.
Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jamie Parmer; their children Clay & Kristi Parmer, Chance Parmer and Tammy Taylor, Cole & Lacey Parmer and Sky Parmer & Blake Davis.
