BASS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME
Mrs. Dolores Marie York Winkler, 86, of Hickory, died October 21, 2021, as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Dolores was born in Durham, NC on November 17, 1934, to the late Sallie Belle York and Lindley Milton Allred. She grew up on a farm in Ramseur, NC. A 1953 graduate of Ramseur High School, Dolores enjoyed home economics and playing forward during basketball games.
Dolores worked in the office at Century Furniture and in distribution at Gilbert Hose. She also worked for a Lenoir family as a private caregiver at a nursing home in Hickory. But her greatest joy came from caring for her family and the many years she spent as a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Robert Bulla and by her second husband, James Columbus Winkler.
Dolores is survived by her only child, Keith David Bulla of New York, NY; her 'second son,' Tim Miron of Charlotte, NC; a stepson and daughter-in-law, David and Angie Winkler of Hickory; two half-sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Leroy Howerton of Dry Fork, Arkansas, and Jane and David Marzewski of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Helen Bulla of Mocksville, NC and Patricia Cleary of Charlotte, NC; and several cousins and special friends.
Dolores loved flowers, BUT she loved helping others more. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Garden Mausoleum at Catawba Memorial Park, 3010 US Highway 70 SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Dolores at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 (her birthday), at Viewmont Baptist Church, 1246 2nd Street NE (Hwy 127 North), Hickory, NC 28601.
