Dolores (Dolly) Newton, 90, of Maysfield, passed peacefully from this life into Eternal Life on Nov. 10, 2022 at home in La Grange.
Dolly was born in La Grange, Fayette County, on Aug. 15, 1932, to Frank and Marie Vacula. She graduated La Grange High School in 1949. Soon after she married Melvin Menking and had four children, Belinda, Debbie, Pam and Myron. In 1968, she married Robert (Bob) Newton.
She is survived by her four children: Belinda and husband Ron Beyer of Pflugerville, Debbie Zigal and late husband Bryan of La Grange, Pam Menking of La Grange and Myron Menking and wife Laura of Floresville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are one sister, Clancy (Clara) Taylor of La Grange, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; her late husbands Melvin and Bob; son-in-law, Bryan Zigal; granddaughter, Lacey Lewis; great-granddaughter, Kyla Drozd; sister, Anna Heger; brothers-in-law, Frank Heger and Billy Taylor; and by half-siblings, Frank (Poncho) and Louis Vacula, Ludmilla and Marie Vacula.
In 1994, Dolly and her husband Bob, moved to his family home in Maysfield, where they lived and farmed for many years. Dolly became an active member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Cameron. She was also a devoted member of the St. Monica Ladies Alter Society and Christian Mothers. Dolly was very strong in her faith and prayed the Holy Rosary daily.
Dolly moved back to La Grange close to two years ago with her daughter Debbie. During that time, she was closer to more of her family and old friends who she enjoyed spending time with. She loved the holidays and having all her children and grandchildren together sharing memories and making new ones. Some of her favorite things to pass the time by were baking, puzzling, listening to old country music, eating out, an occasion cold drink and even ironing.
Dolly would like to thank the Brazos Valley Hospice Staff and nurses for the excellent care they gave Dolly in her last months. Also thank you to family and friends who have bee a vital part of Dolly's life. She truly loved you all.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Cameron with a rosary to be prayed prior to the service at 11 a.m. followed by a private family burial at Pebble Grove Cemetery in Maysfield. Viewing will be Wednesday from noon until 5 p.m. Family will not be present.
Memorials may be made to St. Monica Church, the Kyla Faith Memorial Scholarship Fund or to a charity of choice.
