Dolores L. Riggs, 86, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Golden Living Center Mishawaka.
Dolores was born on March 5, 1934 in Lafayette, IN., to Theodore and Florence (Ullrich) Pettit. She met and fell in love with Ira L. Needham and soon married him on November 3, 1950. Dolores and Ira had five children, the last two being twins. She loved her children, grandchildren, etc. She loved cooking and baking for them. Her specialties were cream pies and pancakes. Ira preceded her in death after 47 years of marriage on September 26, 1998. But soon thereafter she found love again and married Robert Riggs in the spring of 2000 and lived as husband and wife until her passing on December 6.
Dolores is also survived by her children, Richard (Tana) Needham, Kenneth (Deborah) Needham, Nancy (Rodney) Wright, Norma Pham, her stepchildren, Sandy (Greg) Ziegler and Cheryl (George) Hayden, her grandchildren, Keith Alan (Peggy) Needham, Brian Richard Needham (Annalisa Simpson), Heather Kim (Michael) Bolock, Michael William Needham, Isaac Jacob Needham, Jonah Ira Needham, Gabriel Lee Needham, Andrew Cox, Bonnie Sexton, James Alan Camren, Adam Driver (Joanne Tucker) April (Steve) Wilson, Anthony Pham (Rachel Kelman), Andrew (Michelle) Ziegler, Cory (Abigail) Ziegler, Wendy (Mike) Shaun, Jennifer Crumpler and Stacey Johnson, eighteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild, also surviving is her son in law, James Camren.
Dolores was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Camren and a son in law, Set Pham.
Dolores grew up on a small farm in Battleground, IN. She loved being in the country and taking care of animals, especially her favorite pig named Clem. Dolores took care of the lion's share of the work on the farm and helped take care of the homeless children that their family took in during the war.
Dolores loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Twin City Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her passion was singing. She sang in the choir and sang solos for the church services. She tinkered on the piano every once in awhile for her own enjoyment. She worked at Ball Band for a few years, but was mainly a housewife and mother. She didn't travel much, but her favorite trip was to Branson, Missouri to hear her favorite singer, Andy Williams.
Visitation for Dolores will be on Thursday, December 10, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Services will also be on Thursday starting at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jerry Bell will officiate the services with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
