Dolly Jean Hughes Fyffe, 88, of Longview Texas passed away July 11, 2020. She was born on March 26, 1932 to Albert and Emma Lou Hughes in Marshall, TX. Dolly graduated from Marshall High School in 1950 and went on to attend Bish Mathis Institute Professional Business School. She married Edward D. Fyffe in 1955 and they had one daughter in 1957.
Dolly is survived by her daughter Karen Depperschmidt, son-in-law Paul and granddaughter Amanda, two sisters Joyce(Cookie) Jarrell and Linda Prouty, as well as many nieces nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents Albert and Emma Lou Hughes and two brothers Gary and Bobby Hughes.
Dolly and Ed lived most of their lives in Daingerfield, TX where they owned The Motor Supply. Here they raised their daughter and developed friendships many of which lasted a lifetime. In retirement, they continued their shared interest in quail hunting and the two of them spent many years enjoying the crisp air and nature in West Texas. Dolly was a gifted marksman and knew her way around a rifle!
Everyone loved Dolly! She was fun loving, good humored, and a bright presence in the lives of friends and family. To Dolly, no one was a stranger and she extended her friendship to everyone around her. In 2000 she and Ed moved to Longview. There she became a staple in her neighborhood and church community. Later, in 2007, Dolly packed up and left for Atlanta, Georgia. Her first time living outside of Texas, she left her home state to be closer to her daughter and immediate family. In Georgia she lived in several Senior Independent Living communities where she could be the life of the party and rally together all the different folks who found themselves at the same point in life as her.
She excelled especially at Wii games and helped her Wii golf team 'The Winners" win the Wii Senior National Golf Championship. With her nickname "Dixie Dolly", she would proudly tell you her talents also extended to Wii bowling, which she spent many years teaching to friends and neighbors. She was always encouraging athleticism and socializing among her peers, which she promoted with a healthy dose of competition. She also used her time in Georgia to serve on several committees, including a year as President of the Residents Association as well as the Greeting Committee-a perfect outlet for her outgoing personality.
In 2016 Dolly moved back to Texas with her daughter and family, living in Austin for a couple of years. Longing to move back "home" she returned to East Texas in 2018 where she lived at Arabella of Longview until her death.
Dolly loved a good glass of wine, lots of chocolate daily, feeding her hummingbirds and nurturing every kind of plant and flower she touched.
A graveside service is being planned, more information and an online guestbook will be available at www.raderfh.com.
