Mr. Dixon Cooke, 88, of Beech Island, SC, entered into rest on Friday, August 13, 2021, exactly two years after his wife, Mary Coughlin Cooke.
Born in Perry County, AL, he was son of the late Wilbur Allen and Pearl Clinton Cooke. At the age of seventeen, he left the family cotton field to enlist in the United States Navy, where he proudly and honorably served during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge for the Navy, he went to Auburn University on the GI Bill, where he received a degree in Industrial Engineering. GO WAR EAGLES! He was recruited by United Merchants following graduation.
He enjoyed being with his family and in his younger years he enjoyed a round of golf, working in his garden and fixing things around the house. He was also a great cook and was known for his awesome meatloaf and lasagna.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children and their spouses, Terri and David Hamilton, Mocksville, NC, W. Allen and Rhonda Cooke, Aiken, SC and James Dixon and Holly Cooke, Marion, NC; sister, Christine Poe, Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends on Friday, August 20, 2021, beginning at 10:30 at the First Christian Church of Belvedere. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30 at the church. Pastor Milton Summerall will officiate. Interment with Veterans Honors accorded by a United States Navy Honor Guard will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta, SC. Pallbearers will be Jacob Jarrett, Raoul Gomez, Paul Edmundson, Chase Green, Lucas Cooke and Trevor Cooke.
