Dixie Pearl Coleman, 87, passed away August 8th, 2018 in Wimberley, TX. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Claude and Estelle Denson. Dixie is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Piotrzkowski, her husband Mike, their two children, Rachel and Max. She also leaves a son, Ross Coleman, his wife Gretchen, their two daughters, Maclaren and Emmery. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in and around the state of Texas, and an abundance of friends around the world.
Dixie was born in Harlingen, TX on February 16th, 1931. Dixie graduated Harlingen High School in 1948 and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Texas A&I, Kingsville, TX. Dixie's adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, from teaching in Bogota, Colombia, to living with her family in Tokyo in the 1970s. Her spark for entertaining surfaced during this time, when attending dinners and parties with Ambassadors and World Dignitaries. Although she cherished the experiences, she always remained a true Texan at heart. In 1978, the family returned to Harlingen and Dixie began gaining experience working at the Lemon Tree. This led her to open her own store, "Dixie's Personal Touch", which was an extension of her elegant southern charm. Her skills in the kitchen were well known, cooking dinner for friends and family was her ultimate joy. Dixie received local praise in the May 21, 1997 Valley Morning Star. The article stated, "Ask any number of people in this town and they'll tell you Dixie Coleman is the best cook in Harlingen." In recent years, she worked for Pittman & Davis and remained there until her retirement in 2014. Dixie was an animal lover and also involved in various charities and event committees.
