Dirk Eugene Lord, age 59, of Newark, DE went home to be with his Lord on July 12, 2018. Dirk was born and raised in Seymour, Indiana among a large extended family and moved to upstate New York in his senior year of high school. He loved vacationing in Maine with his grandparents and family members. Dirk served in the United States Navy and enjoyed his time stationed in San Diego where he also enjoyed playing the guitar and song writing. Dirk loved the outdoors, led an active lifestyle, and was a sports enthusiast. He loved tailgating with his wife and friends at University of Delaware football games. Dirk enjoyed watching NASCAR and ran the Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway. He was an avid mountain biker, a member of Trail Spinners, and rode for Henry's Race Team. He also enjoyed riding and racing dirt bikes. Dirk was a devoted family man and was committed to his wife, children, and precious grandchildren. He was a constant supporter of his son's activities attending all his cross country, basketball, and soccer games. Dirk had a zest for life and embraced the simple life.
He is survived by his wife, Shirl Lord; his son, Ryan Lord and his wife, Lindsey; his daughter, Megan Newberry and her husband Chad; his brother, Darin Lord (Kay); his sister, Toni Taylor (James); and grandchildren: LouElla Newberry, and Theodore and Benjamin Lord. Dirk was preceded in death by his parents, William and Neola Lord and his sister, Valerie Girse.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, July 17 from 6-8 PM at the Strano undefined Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 and again on Wednesday, July 18 from 9:30-11 AM at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 3135 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, DE 19701. A service in celebration of Dirk's life will follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Trail Spinners, 333 Delaplane Ave, Newark, DE 19711.
