Dickey, 80, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022. He was in the company of his loving family and the devoted workers at his care facility in Charlotte, NC.
Born April 9, 1941, in Kingstree, SC, he was the son of the late Henry Miles Preacher and Nelle Cockfield Preacher. Following graduation from Kingstree High School, Dickey furthered his education at the University of South Carolina's School of Pharmacy. Upon graduation, he returned to Kingstree and joined his father as a pharmacist at Preacher Drug Co. From 1963 until his retirement in 1998, he faithfully served the community with his devoted business partner, fellow pharmacist, and friend, Archie B. Ward. Additionally, he served the state of South Carolina on the Board of Pharmacy for many years.
Dickey was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree where he served as an Elder, and Choir member and in many other capacities through the years. His deep and abiding faith in Christ was the foundation of his life, and his servant leadership was an example to many.
The joy of Dickey's life was his family. His love story with his wife, the former Jenny Lynn Joyce, began in the summers of the late 1950s when her family would temporarily relocate from Winston-Salem, NC to Kingstree for the Tobacco market. They married on January 25, 1964, recently celebrating 58 years of marriage. He was a beloved and devoted father to Kim, Bryan, and Karen and a loving "Poppa" to his seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny Lynn Preacher; three children, Kim Preacher of Charlotte, NC, Bryan Preacher of Marblehead, MA, and Karen Preacher Plettner (Patrick) of Charlotte, NC; and seven grandchildren- Miles, Jack, Bryson, and Wilkes Preacher and Drew, Charlie and Virginia Plettner.
He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Dr. Charles Edward Preacher.
A service to celebrate Dickey's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree, SC. The family will receive guests in Grace Hall following the service.
