Diane Lynn Dower (73) of Earleville, MD passed away on November 5, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 12, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Charlotte (Anders) Fritz and the devoted wife of 41 years to the late Andrew William Dower, Ill.
Diane graduated from Millersville University with a degree in Education and began her teaching career as a Special Education Teacher at Wallace Wallin School in New Castle County, Later, she was a substitute teacher at Cecilton Elementary School and then worked at Cecilton Head Start until retirement. Diane loved to sing in her church choir and she enjoyed working in her gardens. She had a keen interest in history and loved antiques. Diane was a patron of the fine arts, and was a member of the Delaware Theatre Company. She was an avid reader and a member of the Cecilton Book Club. Diane was very active in her community. Her family fondly recalls her great love of animals, especially birds. Above all else Diane placed her family first and foremost in her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Diane is survived by her five children: Sally Gray (Mike) of Port Deposit, MD, Adriane Bender (Thomas) of Port Deposit, MD, Emily Johnston (Coy) of Lewes, DE, Eddie Dower (Christine) of West Chester, PA, and Bill Dower (Becky) of Newark, DE; five grandchildren: Andrew Gray, Carly Bender, Ava Bender, Nash Johnston and Esme Johnston; nieces and nephews: Shana Bryan, Sarah Kise, Adam, Drew, and Abigail Webster, and Katie Skowronski.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from
10:00 am to 11:00 am at Trinity UMC-450 3rd Street, Chesapeake City, MD where a Memorial Service will be offered at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers for the service, please honor Diane by planting flowers at a special place within your community or at Bethel Cemetery, where she often went to beautify the grounds whenever possible.
