Diana Leah Gebolys, age 77, passed away from a heart attack Monday May 16th, at her home in The Woodlands.
Born in Des Moins, Iowa February 1st, 1945. The family then moved to Texas and finally settled in Richardson, Texas. Diana's work career was as a social worker for the state of Texas. Her work aiding the elderly and disabled was marked by a high degree of professionalism and a deep care for others. Following her first marriage to Mack McLendon, she raised her two sons on her own until she met Paul Gebolys in Austin.
Paul and Diana were married June 6th, 1975 in Zilker Garden in Austin with the minister from her childhood days officiating. In 1980 they moved to The Woodlands where she continued her social work until her retirement in 2002 . Her warm smile and generous heart touched many in the community. She continued caring for others as she prepared legal residents for their citizenship test and witnessed for life, even in front of the largest Planned Parenthood facility on this continent.
Her two sons, Keith McLendon and Woodrow McLendon grew up exploring The Woodlands. Keith moved to Saratoga, Wyoming where he became the editor/publisher of the award winning Saratoga Sun. Woodrow earned a Masters Degree from the University of Houston and now teaches at Lone Star College. Woodrow and Nina McLendon provided Diana her only grandchild, Morgan McLendon, who danced in The Nutcracker ballets here and is now working on an advanced degrees in biostatistics and epidemiology from Texas A. and M. Diana and Morgan enjoyed a close and special relationship that enriched the lives of both.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Paul Gebolys, her son, Woodrow McLendon, his wife, Nina, and her granddaughter, Morgan McLendon, and by her stepdaughter, Sacha Ashworth. She is also survived by her two sisters, Sharon Kay Gwaltny and Donna Irving, and their husbands.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Woodlands Bible Church, 995 Pinyon Pines Drive, The Woodlands, 77381, Saturday June 11, at 1PM
