Mr. Denver Edgar "D.E." Short, Jr. of Sasser, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Willson Hospice House in Albany. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson with Mr. T. Gamble officiating.
Mr. D. E. was born on August 16, 1932 in Americus, Georgia. He was the son of Mr. Denver Edgar Short, Sr. and Mrs. Christine Mims Short. He moved to Sasser with his parents as a child, and became a lifelong resident who supported his community in many ways his entire life. He graduated from Terrell High School and attended Perry Business School in Albany. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the early 1950's and later served in the Georgia National Guard for eight years.
He and his father owned and operated D.E. Short Trucking Company in Sasser for many years and he continued the business after his father's death until he retired.
He was a member of the Sasser United Methodist Church and the Berean Sunday School Class of the Dawson United Methodist Church. He also attended and supported many other churches in the community as well.
D. E. was a member and supporter of the American Truck Historical Society and enjoyed stock car racing and collecting antique trucks and tractors.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Greene (Edd) of Sasser, a granddaughter, Trena Davis (Tim) of Hoschton, Georgia, two great-grandchildren, Will Davis and Caroline Davis and a dear friend, Mary Jordan of Sasser.
