With regret and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dennis Lee Wingate, age 71 of Bluefield, Virginia. Dennis passed away on January 19, 2022, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital from Covid-19. Dennis was born August 17, 1950, in Wytheville, Virginia to the late Carl Wingate and Mattie Vaught Wingate. Dennis enjoyed reading, cooking, watching college football, and spending time outdoors with his beloved dog, Molly. He was a member of the Green Mountain Hunting Club where he spent a lot of his weekends with his best friends, Barry, Bradley, and Brian Guynn, Kermit Osborne, and Jeff Ratliff. He was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School and Wytheville Community College. Dennis retired from the county of Bland as their Water Treatment Operator. He was preceded in death by brothers Melvin Ray Wingate and Chris Wingate, brother-in-law Paul Miller, Jr., and nephew Adam Williams. Survivors include his wife Sherry Miller Wingate, sons Nathan Aker (April) of Wytheville, Rick Brown (Sheri) of Bluefield, Virginia, and daughter Amanda Traigle (Danny) of Winston Salem, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Wingate Williams (Jim Bob) of Johnson City, Tennessee, and sisters-in-law Betty Wingate of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Ella Wingate of Sugar Grove, Virginia. Other survivors include brother-in-law Jack Miller of Bluefield, Virginia, sister-in-law Sharon Miller of Summerfield, Florida, grandchildren Abby, Nixon, and Aurelia Aker, Zachary (Kayla) and Jarod Brown, Mitchell, Addison, and Audra Traigle, nieces Lindsey Iglesias of Johnson City, Tennessee and Ashley Hall of Sugar Grove, Virginia, and nephew Jeff Wingate of Blacksburg, Virginia.
Due to Covid, Dennis's wishes were to be cremated with no services held. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tazewell County Animal Shelter, 736 Camp Joy Road, Bluefield, Virginia 24605 in honor of Dennis's beloved dog, Molly. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com. The Wingate family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
