On Wednesday, May 25th, 2022, Dennis Esler Crowley, loving, devoted husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 93, in Round Rock, Texas.
Dennis was born July 29th, 1928, in Laredo, Texas to Francis and Margaret (Stotts) Crowley. After spending his first 5 years living in Mexico due to a US Government building project, he spent his formative years in Wyoming, finishing high school as a Tucumcari (NM) Rattler. Upon graduation at 17 and with his parents' permission, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. After his service expired, he then tried his hand at college. When the Korean War broke out, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950, earning the Silver Star, and the Purple Heart with two clusters, ending his service early in 1953. By the end of October 1953, he became engaged and married his soul mate, Marilyn Joyce Haines. With her at his side, he completed his Geology degree from The University of New Mexico and began his career in the oil industry. They raised two sons, Kevin and Sean, and a daughter, Kerry. Dennis retired in 1985 and spent his early years of retirement traveling to many foreign countries while creating a true Garden of Eden in Corrales, New Mexico. Being closer to grandkids prompted a move to Lubbock, TX and after 20 years, they moved to Round Rock, TX where he ultimately passed away.
Dennis shared his love of the outdoors with his family, and created a lifetime of those memories from Lake Heron, NM to Guaymas, Mexico. His woodworking skills filled his home and are cherished by those lucky to possess one of his projects. Always an avid reader, his knowledge of 20th century military history was extensive. His dogs have always held a special place in his heart, from Duke and Jet, when he was first married, to Duchess, Sammy, Casey, Mimi and more in between. He was not very sly sneaking treats to them at mealtime. He will always be remembered for that "mischievous twinkle" in his eye, a quick smile, his genuine persona and his passion for DESSERT!
Dennis was preceded in death by both of his parents, son Sean (2019) and granddaughter Christine (1997). He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, son Kevin and wife D'Ann, daughter Kerry and husband Zahir Noormohamed, daughter-in-law Nancy Crowley and 5 grandchildren. Graveside service will be held Saturday, June 25th at 11:30 am at Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, TX. A reception will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Resthaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any Veteran Organization of your choice.
