Denis Jaksina, 68, of West Hartford, passed away on May 29, 2022 at the home of his son after a long illness, surrounded by his children.
Denis was born on July 14, 1953 in New Britain, CT to the late Bronislaw and Concetta (Pavano) Jaksina, previously residing in Unionville and Newington, CT
before settling in West Hartford, CT. He was also predeceased by his brother John Jaksina. He was a graduate of Lewis S. Mills High School in Burlington, CT and Central Connecticut State University.
An engineer by trade, he most recently taught technology education at Waterbury Career Academy. Through all his professional life, he was most proud of the time he spent as a teacher.
Denis loved to build and fix things. He was a curious man who was always interested in how things worked and were put together. He could often be found updating his and his children’s homes and fixing anything that may have been broken. One of his favorite past times was to teacher his son how to put things together. His final project was building his daughter, Jennifer, a dining room table for her 40th birthday.
Denis was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He loved attending sporting events, especially those where his kids and grandkids were the athletes, and often coached his kid’s sports teams in his younger years.
More than his hobbies and interests, Denis will be most remembered for his positive spirit and his joking nature. He was always so much fun and the life of the party. Denis is survived by his wife, Hinda, and will be dearly missed by his daughter Jennifer Kumnick and her husband Stephen of Wethersfield, CT, his daughter Stephanie Jaksina of Cromwell, CT, his son Jeffrey Jaksina and his wife Sarah of West Hartford, CT, his four grandchildren Avery, Alexandra, John, and Benjamin, and his first wife, Deborah Jaksina, who cared for him in his final days.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 3rd with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church St., Newington. Please go directly to church. Visitation will be Thursday, June 2nd from 4-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
