Demetrius (Jim) N. Stellakis, 81, of Conway, New Hampshire, formerly of Brockton and Bridgewater, Massachusetts, passed away on December 27 in the company of his beloved wife, Nancy (Pereira), after a lengthy illness.
Jim grew up in Eleusis, Greece. After surviving the German occupation during WWII and the civil war that followed, he joined the merchant marines traveling the world, and finally immigrated to the United States. Armed with a limited education and a strong work ethic, Jim owned and operated his own construction company. Jim rarely took a day off and never turned down honest work.
Jim had many accomplishments in his life. He was grateful for his success in this country in spite of his humble beginnings. He was very proud to be an American citizen and took advantage of the opportunities this country provided him. He demonstrated his belief in education by attending night school after work and earning his high school diploma. Jim raised three children and saw that they all attended college, with the hope that they would have an easier life than he did. He spent his later years with his loving wife in their home in the mountains of New Hampshire, reflecting with pleasure on a life well lived.
He is survived by his children Nicholas and his wife Sefany of Andover, Mass.; Stephen and his wife Jennifer of Swansea, Mass.; and Katherine and her husband Jason of Hanson, Mass.; his grandchildren Alexandra, James, Jason, Lukas, and Matthew; his stepchildren Jaime Pereira and Christie Pereira; his step-granddaughter Alexis Pereira; and his former wife Joanna.
