Longtime Hamden resident Delores Mary D'Agostino Mercugliano, 92, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021. Daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Eluzzi) D'Agostino, Delores was a devoted wife and mother, who was passionate about her faith, her career, and her family. She leaves behind her loving husband Vincent, children Mary Carbone, Michael Mercugliano (Stacy) and David Mercugliano (Judith) and grandchildren Delores Carbone, and Christina, Justin, Jonathan, Peter, Zachary, Hope, Augustine, and Catherine Mercugliano, as well as her surviving sibling, Anna Fischer, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Frank and Nick D'Agostino. Delores was a registered nurse and graduate of St. Raphael's School of Nursing. She was often singled out as having been a career woman before this was common-place, initially working at St. Raphael's, and later with highly-regarded New Haven area physicians. She was especially proud of her work with the Yale University School of Medicine and her published contributions to research in pediatrics. Although she loved this career, and spoke with great fondness of it, Delores devoted herself fully to the vocation of family life when she met Vincent. She raised her children lovingly and proudly watched them grow and begin their own families. She loved to hear about what others were doing in their lives, and celebrated her children's and grandchildren's successes with joy. She will be remembered with love for her sense of humor and infectious laughter. Calling hours will be Saturday Oct. 9th, 2021 at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 8:00-9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Mary's RC Church, Hillhouse Ave., New Haven. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. www.siskbrothers.com
