Delores J. (Hood) Mercer, 88, of Camby, passed away Tuesday, January 26th, 2021. She was born January 8th, 1933 in Brazil, Indiana to her parents, Fred Hood and Cynthia (Pell) Girton. She married Kenneth L. Mercer on July 12th, 1952. Although she grew up in Brazil, she lived most of her life in Mooresville. She was a Champion of type 1 Diabetes for 55 years. She proved that even with Diabetes challenges, you can live a healthy and long life.
Delores was a 1952 graduate of Van Buren High School in Brazil, Indiana. She worked as an Aide for Dr. Kendrick at Kendrick Colorectal Hospital in Mooresville. Delores and Kenneth built their home in 1963 and that is where they lived for 53 years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, and reading, especially Stephen King novels.
Delores is survived by her five children: Janet (David) Thompson of Texas, Jay Mercer of Greencastle, Julie Acton (Danny Shaw) of St. Thomas, Tod (Tina) Mercer of Mooresville, and Cindy (Bart) Tarleton of Camby; nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Delores is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Kenneth L. Mercer.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
