Delbert H. Schmucker, 77, of Middlebury died at 12:00 am on Sunday, September 15, Millers Merry Manor, LaGrange after a brief stay. He was born on May 4, 1942 in Elkhart to Henry and Jermima (Kuhns) Schmucker. On August 28, 1960 in Elkhart County he married Anna Weirich, she died February 19, 2015. Surviving are daughter, Debbie (Bret) Green of Vicksburg, MI; son, Jimmie (Brenda) Schmucker of Middlebury; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; four sisters, Florence Schrock of Middlebury, Iva (Mel) Miller of Goshen, Alma Gingrich of Goshen, Betty (John) Yoder of Millersburg; two brothers, Robert (Becky) Schmucker of Calhoun, IL, Howard (Susie) Schmucker of Sarasota, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Dorothy Bontrager. Delbert was a member of First United Methodist Church, Middlebury and had worked as an over the road truck driver and also at Jayco for 20 years, retiring as their head mechanic. He was also the owner of Schmucker's Garage for 15 years. After retirement he worked on a quilting machine. He enjoyed fishing, especially on Lake Erie and the St. Joe River and was an avid NASCAR fan. He and his wife enjoy traveling together and wintered in Florida for many years. He had been a member at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, Gosport. His greatest love in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28, at First United Methodist Church, 720 S. Main St. Middlebury. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 am also on Saturday at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ron Russell. Burial will be at a later date in Ivins Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, or either the Southwest Michigan or Parkview Hospices. Online condolences may be offered at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.
