DeLane Arthur Bollinger passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakes, ND surrounded by family. He was 87.
DeLane was born April 24, 1936 to Adam and Hulda (Bertsch) Bollinger on his Bollinger grandparents' homestead farm in Potsdam Township north of Monango. In 1937 the family relocated to a rented farm just east of Merricourt, living there for four years. In September 1941, when an early snowfall interrupted threshing, the family moved to a newly purchased farm in Hamburg Township seven miles west of Monango. DeLane lived there the rest of his life. He was educated in a nearby country school and subsequently graduated from Monango High School in 1953. During his youth, he and his younger brother Howard were active in the WGH 4-H Club, raising and showing livestock. After graduation from high school, DeLane joined his father in the farming business, raising beef cattle, a few dairy cows, pigs, and small grains. On June 7, 1959, DeLane married neighbor girl Betty Lou Haussler. To this union, three children were born. DeLane and Betty eventually took over management of the farm, focusing on beef cattle, corn, soybeans, and wheat. DeLane enjoyed bull sales, polka and country music, a slow drive through the cattle herd on Sunday afternoons, and Teddy Roosevelt stories. Some of his happiest days were spent baling hay, so long as it was John Deere equipment. He disliked beets or asparagus on his dinner plate and snowstorms during calfing season. He appreciated good riding horses and was a member of the Traildusters Saddle Club. He participated in the annual round-up and 2-day cattle drive from the summer pasture in Albertha Township to the home farm, from its beginning in 1962 until his last time in October 2022. Over the years, DeLane was active in various church and township offices and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Monango and subsequently Ellendale.
DeLane is survived by his wife Betty of Monango, son Steven (Barbara) of St Cloud, MN, daughter Jacquelyn Christ of Ellendale, ND, and son Timothy (Angie) of Monango. He also leaves his grandchildren: Devin (wife Ashley) Christ, Erin Christ, Chloe and Siera Bollinger, and step granddaughter Kayla (husband Travis) LaFramboise as well as great grandchildren: Madison, Beckett, and Dominic Christ and step great grandson Carter LaFramboise. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Delbert in 1935, brother Howard in 1960, and son-in-law Scott Christ in 2002.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes.
