Debra Marie "Debi" (Rust) Scherschel, 65, of Highland, Illinois passed away at 8:05 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at her home. Debi was born January 16, 1956 in Herrin, Illinois, a daughter of the late Duane Rust and Doris J. "Suni" and Robert N. "Bob" Lee. On June 7, 1980, Debi married Dennis C. Scherschel at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Illinois and he survives. In October of 1980, the newly wed couple took their dog, Boo, and the rest of their belongings and moved to live on the mountainside near Joseph, Oregon where they began their marriage. After other moves, around 1985, the Scherschels moved to Highland, Illinois where they have resided. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Debi retired from Kwapis, Dyer, Knox and Miller after 32 years of dedicated service as a dental assistant and office manager. She enjoyed spending time on the back patio with her husband and family and traveling with friends and family. Debi was a loving mother, wife, nana, aunt, sister, cousin and friend. Her most favorite role was being a nana to her three grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kira Scherschel of Chatham, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Chris Noeth of Maryville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Jonah Scherschel, Josie Scherschel and Henry Noeth; a sister and brother-in-law, Delinda and Larry Bowling of Bloomington, Indiana; two special family members, Jarret and Jacob Sisson; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Darrin Rust. In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange Street in Maryville, Illinois on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. with Father Rob Johnson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
