Deanna Kay (Downs) Iverson, Age 61, of Anacortes, Washington, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, while surrounded by family and friends.
Deanna was born on November 14, 1962, in Anacortes, Washington, to Russell and LeAnne Downs, their second of five children. She lived her entire life as a resident of Anacortes, graduating from AHS in 1981. Immediately following high school, her first job was as a receptionist for Dr. Thomas Brooks and she remained an employee within the medical community for the duration of her life. She worked in other capacities, including bookkeeper, transcriptionist, and most recently as the Administrative Assistant at Island Health.
Deanna, known as 'Nanna' to her family and close friends, was a lover of cats, the color blue, and frozen peppermint patties. Her favorite flowers were carnations. She would often be found working a crossword or jigsaw puzzle, figuring out the latest word game, or playing Yahtzee with family. She loved to laugh and make others laugh with her witty sense of humor. She could type faster than any typewriter or computer program could keep up with her. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, as long as you waited to celebrate it until the day after Thanksgiving.
While Deanna loved so much in this life, there were also some things she absolutely did not like, such as spiders or someone chewing gum with their mouth open. But there was so much more she liked than she didn't. Nanna thoroughly enjoyed spending time with people, whether watching a cooking show or funny movie, playing games, organizing an event, chatting on the phone, going on a vacation, or simply hanging out. Nanna was the absolute best at offering a helping hand! She thrived at assisting 'her people' in their everyday lives. The list of ways she helped others could go on and on, whether moving houses, making a meal, painting walls, baking a wedding cake or birthday cupcakes, or hosting a party. She practiced an open-door policy and welcomed people into her home and life over and over again. There was always a place for 'just one more' at her table.
Her service to others was often practiced through the local church. She was a Missionettes teacher and a MOPS leader. She was an intricate part of the praise team and Bible studies, and each year at the Easter Egg Hunt, you would find her preparing and serving food.
Deanna loved to sing! She had one of the clearest soprano voices around, and she used it to sing praise to God. She sang in the church choir and on the worship team, but she really loved singing praise songs with her family. She carried a strong melody line so others could harmonize with her.
Deanna is survived by her husband, Leonard Iverson; daughters Samantha (& Dashawn) Revis and Stephanie Iverson; granddaughter Melody Revis; parents Russell and LeAnne Downs; sisters Denise Downs, Denette (& Darrin) Curbow, and Denelle (& Fred) DeVries; brother David Downs; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by three children through miscarriage and her grandson, Caydmon Revis.

Nanna shared the same favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:28, with her husband, Lennie: And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
Most importantly, Deanna was a believer in Jesus and served God with her whole heart. Her selflessness and desire to serve others came from her deep love and devotion to our Lord and Savior. Anyone who knew her felt like they were the most important person in the world, and each one had a very individual relationship with her. She will be remembered for giving to and caring for others and will be fiercely missed by so many.
A Memorial service was held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Anacortes, WA. Deanna was laid to rest at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes, WA. To share memories of Deanna, please visit her online obituary located at www.evanschapel.com/obituary/deanna-iverson
