Dean Edwin Metcalfe Sr. 82, of Mercersburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Born January 28, 1941 in Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Ralph James and Ruth Seichrist (Weller) Metcalfe.
Dean graduated from James Buchanan High School and started working at the family sawmill. Dean married Carolyn Mae Reed on December 31, 1961. For 34 years, Dean worked as the Montgomery Township Supervisor and was inducted into the PSATS Hall of Fame. As supervisor, Dean helped to plan the township park, senior center, and Whitetail Ski resort. Dean loved the Lord and was the Pastor at Mooresville Church of God, Big Pool, MD. Dean enjoyed reading the Bible and spending his time outdoors fishing, hunting, trapping, and cutting wood. Dean loved spending time with his family and dogs, and taking trips to Ocean City.
Dean is survived by his children, Lois Annette (Darrell) Woodring of Loganville GA, Dean (Annette) Metcalfe Jr. of Mercersburg, Kevin S. Metcalfe of Mercersburg, 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Heather, Marshall, Abigail Metcalfe, Blake Woodring, 8 great-grandchildren, a brother, Aden (Gloria) Metcalfe, Mercersburg and a close niece, Donna Sue Edwards.
Dean is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Mae (Reed) Metcalfe and a brother, Glenn Metcalfe.
A viewing will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA. A funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 20 at Fries Funeral Home with Pastor Duane Hawbaker officiating and burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery.
