On July 5th,the stage went dark as Dean Joseph Glasel took his final curtain surrounded by an adoring audience of family and friends. He was born November 25, 1936, and honed his many talents while growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana and attending Shortridge High School, a garden for lifelong friendships. He earned a business degree from Indiana University, served as a 2LT in the Army Reserve, got his pilot's license, was a successful real estate developer and franchise owner, designed several beautiful homes for his loved ones, and won numerous theater awards for his acting and directing talents. He even earned an honorable mention in a New Yorker magazine caption contest.
For those of us who knew him, we just feel lucky to have been part of the script. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, distinctive humor, impeccable style, enigmatic presence, formidable will, jawdropping candor, kindness to animals, and noble largesse.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, sister Deanna, and survived by his children Anne and Tom.
His memory can be honored by donating to The Humane Society, The Salvation Army or Loaves & Fishes...and by supporting local theater (or spending an afternoon listening to show tunes). Condolences may be left for the family at www.McEwenFS.com.
