Dayton DeLorme, 84, passed away at his home in Lee, MA, on January 1, 2021, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Born in Rutland, VT, on August 21, 1936, the son of Rhea and Joseph DeLorme, Dayton was raised in Ticonderoga, NY. After graduating from Ticonderoga High School in 1954, he joined the General Electric Apprentice training program in Pittsfield, MA. Following graduation from the training program he joined the Information Management Organization at GE Ordnance Department. He attended RPI School of Management in Rensselaer, NY, completing the Management Development Program. During his 38-year career at GE, he worked at the Transformer and Arrester/Bushings businesses in addition to Ordnance, and served as a leader and mentor for the GE Finance and Information Systems Management Program. He spent 8 years in the U.S. Army Reserve attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Dayton was a past director of the Stanley Club, director and past President of Greenock Country Club, and was one of the founding members of the Lee PeeWee/Junior Football program. He has been involved in local government in Lee, where he served as chair of the Town Finance Board for several years. He was an assessor for the Town, and a Representative for District Six. He was a recipient of the "Inspiration at 80 Award" in 2019, in recognition for his dedication to the Town of Lee.
Dayton was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee, and was an active member of the parish community, serving on the Finance Council for over thirty years, as well as the Parish Council, the Oratory Society, and the St. Mary's School Board. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, Dayton also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, reading, and most of all visiting with friends and neighbors. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
Dayton joins his parents, Joseph and Rhea, and his brother, Robert, in Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon (Varmette), his two children, Joseph (Patricia) DeLorme of Lee, and Anne (Thomas) Bartini of Lenox, and his six beloved grandchildren: Sarah DeLorme-McColl, Caleb DeLorme, Jacob DeLorme, John DeLorme, Lauren Bartini and Luke Bartini.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 5, at 1:00pm, at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Due to COVID-19 seating limitations in the church, the family welcomes you to the burial service which will be held the next day, Wednesday, January 6th, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee at 1:00 pm.
Visiting hours (walk-through only) will be at Kelly Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 5, 11am-12:15pm.
