David Wesley Young, age 55, of Torrington, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. David was the beloved son of the late Vaughn E. Young and Mary Suzanne (Crede) Young. Born on July 26, 1965, in Boston, Dave spent his early years in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, and then in Canton Center, Connecticut. He was married for 25 years to the love of his life, Lynn (Rodemeyer) Young. Following graduation from Canton High School, David studied at Gettysburg College and completed studies in programming and website development at Northwestern Connecticut Community Technical College. David was an incredibly talented singer with a beautiful tenor voice. He sang for many years in the church choir at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, performing many solos and special anthems. In addition he sang at numerous weddings, including his own wedding in October 1994. In his 20's he was active at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in both choir and leading the youth group. Dave enjoyed all types of music, gardening, traveling, animals (especially cats), Christmas, family gatherings and mostly spending time at home with his family. He spent many hours together with his son binge-watching many TV series that they both enjoyed. In addition to his loving wife Lynn, David leaves, as he often said, "the light of my life," his beloved son Jack Young. He also leaves his mother, Sue Young, his sister and brother-in-law, Johanna and Bruce Ferrone, his nephew, Andrew Ferrone, and niece Charlotte Ferrone. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Cheryl Rodemeyer, his aunt Rosa-Lee Young, aunt and uncle Joan and Dale Kreider, and several cousins. Dave was devoted to his family and we will miss him very much, but we are thankful that he is finally free of pain and in the loving arms of our heavenly father. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jack Young Scholarship Fund, c/o Torrington Savings Bank, 235 Dibble Street, Torrington, CT 06790. There are no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington.
