David Labron Yell, age 74, of Cheboygan, MI, passed away Monday morning, November 15, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a former resident of Lapeer, MI, for 47 years.
As a young boy, he resided at Bonnie Oaks School, Home for Children, in Chattanooga, TN.
David was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. During this time, he served his country in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive, with the 218th MP Company.
He worked for the Ford Motor Company for 37 years, starting as a production lineman, and was later promoted to supervisor, in 1972.
David was a Christian with unwavering faith in God. He was known as "Papa Dave" to many friends and family. He loved this country and was a patriot through and through. David was an avid gardener, loved bird watching, playing cards and board games, metal detecting, coin collecting, music, singing, walking the beach, and was a true "rockhound." He was always looking for a great bargain while at a garage sale or flea market.
Many lives were touched by David's generous heart and kind spirit. David talked softly, walked tall, stood proudly, and those who met him met a friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Virginia (Skinner) Yell; and siblings, Johnny Wolfe, Lyle Gray, Tommy Eimer, James Lamb, and Janice Yell.
David is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Laura; his three beloved children, David (Susan) Yell Jr., Ginger (Michael) Willemsen, and Daniel (Kelley) Yell; dearest grandfather of, Jenny, Erin, Lena, and Mahlon Yell, Shawna (Devin) Adams, Cameron Willemsen, Everet and Everey Yell; great papa of, Elizabeth and Madilyn Yell, and Wyatt Adams; siblings, Diane Griffith (passed February 13, 2022), Charles Yell, Linda Stover, and Joy Elliot all of Ringgold, Georgia.
Inurnment with military honors will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Rd., Clinton Township, MI, 48038.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 12:00 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 North Main St., Lapeer, MI 48446, Rev. Debbie Line Yencer, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Refuge Lapeer, PO Box 1435, Lapeer, MI 48446.
