David Loren Wood, age 74, of Sevierville, Tennessee, went home to be with Jesus on July 21, 2024.
He was born in Taunton, Massachusetts on October 30, 1949. David dedicated his life to law enforcement, a passion that began in childhood as he rode his metal police car through the neighborhood. During college, he served as an auxiliary police officer with the Manassas, Virginia Police Department. After graduating with a BS in Criminal Justice, he enlisted in the US Air Force, rising to the rank of Sergeant and serving as a Military Police officer. He bravely served in Vietnam and other Asian countries before settling in San Antonio, Texas. After his military service, David continued his law enforcement career with the Baltimore City Police Department, achieving the rank of Inspector. Upon relocating to Tennessee with his beloved wife Debbie, he joined the Knox County Sheriff's Department, where he retired as a Corporal in 2014 after 25 years of dedicated service.
David was a devoted husband to Debbie for 36 years, a loving father to his sons Marcus and Nicholas, and a cherished grandfather to Elijah. He had a passion for motorcycles, hot rods, reading westerns, and many other interests.
David was preceded in death by his father Winston L. Wood, mother Corrinne S. Wood, and brothers Barry W. Wood, Mark Wood, and Brian S. Wood. He is survived by his wife Debbie; sons Marcus S. Wood and Nicholas W. Wood; grandson Elijah C. Wood; sister-in-law Martha Stone-Wood and Barbara L. Steich; several beloved nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Angel and Kandi; and extended family members Tommy Watts, Jo Ann Watts, Gail Watts-Terry, Jamie Williams, Maria Diaz Moody (Darold), and cousin Steven Robinson (Debby).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sevierville American Legion, Wounded Warrior Project, or Sevier Animal Care Center.
A celebration of David's life will be held on October 30, 2024, which would have been his 75th birthday.
David Lauren Wood will be remembered for his bravery, dedication to service, and love for his family and community. May he rest in peace.
