David James Wilmeth, 78, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
David was born November 19, 1942 in La Porte to the late Martin & Betty (Dunafon) Wilmeth.
David was an Iron Worker with the Iron Workers Local Union 395. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid poker player, playing with his poker buddies every Saturday night. David was a Notre Dame, and Chicago Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan, as well as the Peyton Manning Indianapolis Colts fan.
David loved to travel and took Evelyn on many adventures, including Italy, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico. He loved family get-togethers, cook outs and volleyball, competing in horse shoes with his father and brothers-in-law, ping pong with the kids, laughing at our nonstop stories, 5000-piece puzzles and endless Sudoku. He loved his ready-made family and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren they were blessed with.
On September 18, 1982, David married Evelyn L. Kaercher who survives; with children, Clyde (Maria) Gaw of Indianapolis, Kevin Gaw of Littleton, Colorado, Patty (Michael) De Stefano of South Bend, Tony (Bridgette) Gaw of Sheridan, Indiana, Tim (Lora) Gaw of Walkerton, and Kirk Gaw of Los Angeles, California; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brothers, Dennis (Karen) Wilmeth of Baltimore, Maryland, and Danny Wilmeth of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Deb Gaw.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where a family eulogy will be at 7 p.m.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at 9 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at the funeral home prior to the Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana. Reverend Bill O'Toole will officiate. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery. Please note, all times are C.S.T.
