HARTSFIELD - David Glynn Underwood, Sr., 83, of Hartsfield, died Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Graveside rites, with military honors, will be Friday, Oct. 23 at 11:00 AM at Hartsfield Cemetery with the Rev. Colon Dacus, Rev. Paula Lewis and Rev. Kathy McLeod officiating.
Casketbearers will be Dalton Underwood, Michael Underwood, Terry Beckwith, Trey Underwood, Dillon Underwood, Ridge Underwood, Dewey Howell and Kendall Howell.
Born August 13, 1937 in Doerun, he was the son of the late Hugh Brannon Underwood and Gladys Marie Harrell Underwood. Mr. Underwood was a 1955 graduate of Moultrie High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired engineer with Delta Airlines with 30 years of service. He made his home in Locust Grove, Ga. for thirty years where he was a former member of the Henry County Lions Club, was a former Locust Grove City Councilman, served on the board at Henry General Hospital and was a former member of the Henry County School Board. He sang in the gospel quartet The Travelaires, with former airline employees.
Mr. Underwood was a former long-time member of Hartsfield United Methodist Church and was then a 29 year member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as Song Leader, Lay Leader, Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. For the past five years, he has been a member and Sunday School Teacher at Hand United Methodist Church in Pelham.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Clifford Underwood.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Irene Howell Underwood of Hartsfield; two sons, David Glynn Underwood, Jr. and wife Denise of Locust Grove and Cecil Brannon Underwood and wife Paula of Moultrie; one brother, Ronald Hugh Underwood of Hartsfield; one sister, Jewel Kidder and husband Dan of Hartsfield; four grandchildren, David Glynn "Trey" Underwood III and wife Stephanie of Marietta, Loni Ann Underwood and fianc?e Ryan Cochran of Locust Grove, Dillon Anthony Underwood and fianc?e Tiffany Little of Valdosta, Ridge Brannon Underwood and wife Christine of Decatur; three great-grandchildren, Knox Anthony Underwood, Ada Lucille Underwood and Maxine Jewel Cochran.
