David Lee Smith, 73, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Weirton, WVa, born on April 30, 1947 in Steubenville, Ohio passed away on December 4, 2020 at MUSC in Charleston, SC surrounded by his loving family.
David was a wonderful husband and proud father of 2 children, and a doting grandfather of 2 and step grandfather to 1. He lived a full life with his loving wife of over 49 years, Judy Frank Smith.
David graduated from Madonna High School in 1965. He played basketball for Lebanon Junior College for two years and pursued the rest of his accounting degree from Tennessee Tech. He later obtained his MBA from Georgia College and State University. He retired from RSC in 2011as the company's Regional Controller. David has always been a hard worker and continued to volunteer with Special Olympics, substitute teach at Red Cedar Elementary, and work at the golf course up until a few months before his passing.
David was an avid golfer, sports fan in particular the Pittsburgh Steelers, doting grandfather, and a loyalist to his family and friends that he held dear to his heart. He will missed and remembered for his witty, dry sense of humor that always kept his family and friends on their toes.
David was a member of St. Gregory the Great and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Judy, children Brian Patrick Smith and wife Stephanie Smith of Statesboro, Ga, Erin Smith Kight and husband Joshua Kight of Savannah, Ga, grandchildren Tanner Smith, Land Kennedy, and Layla Kight.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 Saint Gregory Dr., Bluffton.
