David James Shannon, age 84, departed this life on September 11, 2021 at Waterbury, CT. For 45 years David was the loving, faith-filled, partner, husband and sweetheart of Patricia (Barrett) Shannon, who feels Blessed to have had such a happy, full, exciting life with Dave. David was born in Boston, MA to the late David Joseph and Catherine (Cannon) Shannon. He grew up in Hingham, MA, a town filled with many friends, adventures and great memories. David successfully attended Archbishop Williams High School (Class of '55) Massachusetts Maritime Academy (class of '58). David proudly served in the US Navy and US Merchant Marine. He worked at General Dynamics-Electric Boat, Combustion Engineering, ABB and Alstom Power. In addition to his wife, David is survived by five children who he was so very proud of and loved dearly; Elizabeth A. Shannon of Silver Spring, MD, Susan Shannon Amos, husband Paul of Poughkeepsie NY, LTC David W. Shannon, ARNG, wife Natalie Borden of Georgetown, MA, Mark A. Shannon, wife Marissa of Niantic, CT, Michael C. Shannon and wife Ann of Ringwood, NJ, sister Dr. Catherine B. Shannon of North Scituate, MA, brother Brother Christopher P. Shannon FMS of Pelham, NY. Grandchildren Sean Pollack wife Cristina, Nancy Shannon, Sara-Michelle Shannon, Claire Amos, Logan Amos, Benjamin David Shannon, Dylan Button, Brannon Button. Great granddaughters Caleigh Pollack, Cairenn Pollack. He was preceded in death by his first love and beloved wife of 11 years, Nancy Moore Shannon, his parents David Joseph and Catherine (Cannon) Shannon, and his brother Captain Richard (Red) T. Shannon USCG. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 in the chapel of Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury, CT 06488 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to David's Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private at a later date. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to: St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury, Inc. MOJO fund, P. O. Box 1612 Waterbury, CT 06721, or Archbishop Williams High School Scholarship fund, 80 Independence Ave, Braintree, MA 02184 in memory of David J. Shannon '55.
